Recovery for the weight you carry on duty.

An estimated 60% of law enforcement officers experience lower back pain over a career, often linked to duty belt weight, the asymmetric posture it creates, and prolonged seated patrol time.

What Nap Hands can do for you

Body Tempering works into the guarded lower back and hip muscles that carry the belt's rotational pull, using steady pressure that lets tissue release rather than brace further.

Compensation patterns we see

  • Duty-belt-driven lower back pain — belt weight promotes anterior pelvic rotation and increased lumbar lordosis

  • Asymmetric loading from one-sided gear (holster, magazine pouches, radio, cuffs)

  • Hip flexor tightness and lower back strain from prolonged vehicle sitting

  • Cervical and shoulder strain from turning to scan surroundings

  • Acute strain from defensive tactics and physical altercations

Stretches and exercises that help

  • Standing hip flexor stretch: Step one foot forward into a shallow lunge, tuck pelvis under, keep torso upright. Hold 30–45 sec each side. Releases hip flexor shortening from prolonged seated/vehicle posture.

  • Seated or standing lumbar extension: Hands on lower back, gently lean backward while standing, or press up from a prone press position. Hold 10 sec, repeat 8–10 times. Counters the forward-flexed seated posture and duty-belt-driven lumbar strain.

  • Figure-4 glute/piriformis stretch: Lying on back, cross one ankle over the opposite knee, gently pull the uncrossed thigh toward the chest. Hold 45 sec each side. Releases hip and glute tightness aggravated by belt pressure and seated rotation.

  • Standing side-body stretch: Reach one arm overhead and lean to the opposite side, keeping hips square. Hold 20–30 sec each side. Addresses the lateral imbalance from one-sided duty gear.

  • Neck rotation and upper-trap release: Slowly turn head side to side through comfortable range, then tilt ear toward shoulder. Hold 20 sec each side. Counters cervical/shoulder strain from repeated scanning and vehicle console work.

Services and tools that help:

  • Body Tempering (weighted steel-tool bodywork for deep, guarded tissue)

  • On-site chair massage at the precinct between patrols

  • Movement therapy to rebuild hip and core mobility affected by seated shifts

  • Assisted stretching for hip flexors and lower back

  • Department wellness days (corporate on-site scheduling)
